An exciting opportunity exists for a Rural Generalist specialising in Emergency Medicine based in East Grampians Health Service Urgent Care Centre in Ararat for a part time position 30 hours per week (10 hour shift –and/or – Mon, Tues, Fri). Number of days of work negotiable.

Job tasks and responsibilities

This hospital-based role is suitable for a PGY2(+) with a strong interest in living and working in a rural township, and a demonstrated interest in rural health.

The successful applicant/s will experience a range of tasks and responsibilities, including care of: acute medical and surgical patients; obstetric patients; residents in aged care facilities; and triage and management of presentations to the Urgent Care Centre.  They will be supported by Clinical Lead, experienced nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, pharmacist and doctors from the Ararat Medical Centre, including GP obstetricians, GP Anaesthetists and GP’s with extensive experience in emergency medicine.

Skills and experience

The successful applicant will be highly motivated with excellent communication and relationship-building skills, and able to be flexible in terms of time management and prioritisation of tasks.  They will demonstrate a thorough understanding of and commitment to providing safe, effective, collaborative clinical care to the patients of EGHS, including in Inpatient Unit, Residential Aged Care facilities and the Urgent Care Centre. They will be able to work with a range of stakeholders and other clinical providers.   

EGHS employs other PGY2+ doctors as well as interns through the Victorian Rural Generalist Program, and is also a teaching site for nursing and allied health students.  The successful applicant will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, working with consumers across our Ararat and Willaura campuses.  They will have an opportunity to work autonomously, but with as much support as needed.

NOTE: This position cannot provide supervision of International Medical Graduates seeking to sit Australian Medical Council examinations.

Appointment is subject to immunisation clearance and current and satisfactory Employment Checks (Police and Working With Children Checks and NDIS Worker Screening Check).
