We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Health Promotion Officer to work as part of the EGHS multidisciplinary team and in collaboration with regional organisations to service the Ararat Rural City Council region.

East Grampians Health Service aims to meet the needs of the community by offering a vast array of services based at the community health centre in Ararat. We also offer outreach services to Willaura, Lake Bolac and Elmhurst. Our services include dental, physiotherapy, exercise physiology, occupational therapy, podiatry, speech pathology, dietetics, diabetes education and social work.  These services support other clinical areas including our acute and residential aged care patients. Our community health centre also hosts speciality clinics such as consulting suites for our visiting surgeons and maternal child and health.

About The Role

This position works towards the health and wellbeing of the people in Ararat Rural City’s catchment using the social model of health and focusing on improving health inequalities and inequities for the local population through the development and support of local partnerships. It contributes to the development, implementation and evaluation of the Regional Prevention Plan while considering the local Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan and manages local involvement in statewide health programs such as Vic Kids Eat Well, Smiles for Miles and the Achievement program. It requires collaboration with local stakeholders, including schools, kindergartens and council and implementation and evaluation of preventative health initiatives.

The Health Promotion Officer is a solo position embedded in the EGHS dental and allied health team. The allied health team consists of physiotherapy, exercise physiology, occupational therapy, dietetics, diabetic education, podiatry, and social work.

About You

  • A tertiary qualification in health promotion, relevant clinical discipline (e.g. Allied Health), public health, community development, education or project management
  • Demonstrated outcomes in project implementation
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in current health promotion and prevention planning, implementation and evaluation methods
  • Commitment to working within a social model of health and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of health promotion literature, evidenced based practice and emerging trends
  • Knowledge and understanding of local and regional health issues and inequities preventing population groups from obtaining good health
  • Strong organisational skills including capacity to be proactive and use initiative, set priorities and to plan and act to achieve desired outcomes within specific timeframes.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communications skills and ability to develop strong effective relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

Appointment is subject to immunisation clearance and current and satisfactory Employment Checks (Police and Working With Children Checks and NDIS Worker Screening Check).
