Visiting Medical Officers recognised for long service

East Grampians Health Service recognised the long service of its Visiting Medical Officers at its 29^th annual general meeting.

Dr Michael Connellan was one of seven Visiting Medical Officers recognised, and is a pillar of East Grampians Health Service, celebrating an impressive 30-year tenure dedicated to rural healthcare in Ararat.

His journey began in 1993 when he arrived in Ararat for a locum position at the Ararat Medical Centre after completing his medical training in Melbourne, Dimboola, and a year in the UK. Dr Connellan became a partner at the Ararat Medical Centre in 1994, where he has since practiced both Obstetrics and Anaesthetics as part of his comprehensive rural general practice.

Dr Connellan is renowned for his exceptional role as an educator and mentor. He has played a leading role in the education and training of medical students from Monash, Melbourne, and Deakin University, as well as Registrars from RACGP and ACRRM and GP Interns. As a Supervisor of GP Registrars and Medical students, he has been pivotal in mentoring locally trained and overseas trained doctors towards successfully gaining their RACGP Fellowship

Thirty years of service stands as a testament to Dr Connellan’s enduring commitment to excellence in rural healthcare, education, and community engagement.

Dr Connellan is also a Life Governor of East Grampians Health Service.

Also recognised were Lydia Johns Putra, Chee Sheng Wong and Katrina Guerin for 15 years’ service, and Trent Roydhouse, Scott Mason and David Francis for 10 years’ service.

“Our Visiting Medical staff continue to play a vital role in providing the services we deliver to our community,” EGHS chief executive Nick Bush said.
