The Kindness in the Mail project is providing enjoyment for young letter writers as well as the recipients in our aged care facilities.
A project of EGHS and Resilient Ararat, Kindness in the Mail is all about connecting our aged care residents in 70 Lowe Street, Garden View Court and Parklands Hostel Willaura, with young people in the community during this time.
Physical distance and self-isolation do not have to be emotionally or socially isolating or lonely.
Children across Ararat Rural City have been invited to send in their artwork, stories or letters to share with our residents to brighten their day.
All mail is sorted and distributed in zip lock bags by staff practising correct hand hygiene.
EGHS coordinator Kelsey Weight said currently residents from across all three aged care facilities have received 16 letters from children, most with multiple letters and artworks, while four letters have been received from Garden View Court residents to send back to the children.
“Residents report feeling ‘good to be thought of’ and that ‘the future is in good hands’,” Kelsey said.
“They think it’s lovely someone is taking the time to write to them.
“The Garden View Court residents said they are enjoying reading about what the local children are doing with their spare time and love seeing their colorful artworks.”
