Hole in one – but no car for Gerri

The big drawcard for the Ararat Hospital Charity Golf Day is always the opportunity to win a car for a hole in one shot, so there was great excitement when Hamilton’s Gerri Griffin scored that elusive hole in one – but unfortunately on the wrong hole!

Sponsored by Kings Cars Ararat, the hole in one on the 18th is keenly contested every year and although Gerri did not drive home in a brand new car, she was presented with a special prize for her efforts.

Despite very wet conditions, 66 golfers took to the course for the ambrose event with the team of Tim Coffee, Michael Kelly and Kyle Dignon winning the handicap trophy sponsored by the Melbourne Parkview Hotel.

The corporate trophy sponsored by ACE Radio was won by the family team of Ellen, Steve and Steff O’Connell.

Winning ladies’ team went to Trish Heard, Gayle Dadswell and Joy Cronin.

Longest drive trophies were awarded to Michael Harricks and Sharon Powell, while nearest the pin trophies went to Adam Tribe, Gerri Griffin, Peter Dohnt, Tim Cronin and Sharon Powell.

Chalambar Golf Club presented East Grampians Health Service with a cheque for more than $2600 as a result of the golf day.

Funds raised will go towards new equipment for the dental department at the EGHS Community Health Centre.

Senior dentist Dominic Barlow thanked Chalambar Golf Club for its generous provision of facilities for the day and the assistance of its members and staff.

“The support of the golf club over the past 15 years has been instrumental in assisting EGHS purchase much needed equipment for a variety of departments.

“This year’s donation will go towards endodontic instrumentation and obturation equipment for the dental department, which will be used to help save more natural teeth for patients, with the aim being to avoid extractions and allow patients to retain their natural teeth longer – and hopefully permanently.

“EGHS would also like to thank all the generous sponsors of the golf day, without whom the day would not be the success it is.”
