Heather Fleming incoming Willaura Auxiliary president

The Willaura Healthcare Auxiliary recently conducted its annual general meeting, and a new executive was elected.

Outgoing President Ruth Gellert will be replaced by Heather Fleming, and Mandy Heard’s role as Treasurer will be taken on by her daughter Hannah Jenkinson. Jan Laidlaw will continue as Secretary.

Mandy has been treasurer since 1989, when The Willaura and District Hospital Ladies’ Auxiliary was reactivated after the original Auxiliary was disbanded in 1982.

Mandy and Hannah continue their family’s long association with the organisation.  Hannah’s grandmothers, Valerie Thewlis and Molly Heard, and great-grandmother, Addie Tully, were all active in the Auxiliary, and members of the Heard family also served on the Board of Management.

Outgoing President Ruth thanked all for their support during a challenging year. Fundraising activities were restricted, and the popular Market had to be cancelled. However financial support was still able to be provided to assist with the purchase of a bladder scanner and on-site activities for residents.

Plans for the coming year include a grain drive, film night and the market, which is scheduled for Sunday March 6 2022.

Anyone interested in assisting the Auxiliary in its role of enhancing the facilities and lifestyle of the residents and patients at EGHS Willaura Healthcare is invited to contact Heather Fleming on 0428 541 328.
