East Grampians Health Service awarded scholarships to nine staff at the annual general meeting, to enable them to undertake further studies in their chosen field.
The EGHS Building for the Future Foundation made available scholarships up the value of $30,000 to ensure the long-term viability of services.
The recipients of the 2024 Foundation scholarships were Helen Kimber, who will undertake an Endorsement in Administer and Monitor Medicines and Intravenous Therapy, Madison Purtill, who will under a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and Joanne Collins, who will undertake Preparation for Rural and Remote Education Program.
Augusta Akaogu was awarded the 2024 Building for the Future Foundation Doctor in Training Scholarship.
This scholarship is for $15,000 per year for four years, to support an EGHS employee to complete qualifications in Medicine, to ensure the improvement and the long-term viability of the medical service at EGHS and throughout the Ararat district.
Sabrina Lewicki was the recipient of the Building for the Future Foundation $20,000 scholarship to support an EGHS employee to complete a Master course. Sabrina will undertake a Master of Business Administration.
The Foundation also made available a scholarship in the name of Joe Kapp up to the value of $15,000.
The recipient of the 2024 Joe Kapp scholarship was Nadine Ferguson, who will undertake a Certificate IV in Mental Health and a Diploma of Community Services.
Epworth Healthcare generously made available a scholarship up to the value of $15,000.
EGHS is grateful for the support of Epworth Healthcare who assists the health service to recruit and train midwives. This support enables midwives to keep up to date with the skills and knowledge essential for EGHS to provide a maternity delivery service.
The recipient of the 2024 scholarship was Sarah Power, who will undertake a Master of Midwifery Practice.
The Angela Laidlaw Clinical Scholarship is donated by the Laidlaw family in memory of Angela. This scholarship creates opportunities for staff working in clinical areas to be supported in recognition for effort and where they are prepared to demonstrate commitment to study in addition to the usual requirements of their role.
The recipient of the 2024 Angela Laidlaw Clinical Scholarship was Rie Jay Calape, who will undertake a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing (Renal).
Keith Little generously provided a scholarship in the name of Ray and Wayne Ord, valued at $15,000.
The recipient of the 2024 Ray and Wayne Ord Scholarship was Caitlyn Nicholson, who will undertake a Doctor of Dental Surgery.
EGHS Board Vice Chair Cameron Evans congratulated all staff who were awarded scholarships and wished them well in their studies.
“East Grampians Health Service is grateful for the support of the Building for the Future Foundation, Epworth Healthcare, the Laidlaw family and the Ord family, in enabling our staff to pursue further study and improve their skills, which ultimately benefits the health service and the community,” Mr Evans said.
