Celebrating 40 years of Volunteering

Margaret Young is the very first recipient to receive an Honorary Life Membership to the EGHS Aged Care Auxiliary following 40 years of volunteering with East Grampians Health Service.

East Grampians Health Service’s Volunteer Coordinator, Sarah Harrison highlighted that

Mrs Young commenced volunteering in 1974 in the kitchen cleaning silverware. In 1979, Mrs Young joined the Moyston Rhymney Auxiliary, over the years the auxiliary has had a number of name changes and is now known as the EGHS Aged Care Auxiliary.

Ms Harrison said “Mrs Young is the only original member from the Moyston Rhymney Auxiliary still volunteering. Mrs Young is instrumental in making the residents feel at home and organises Christmas presents, Easter eggs and birthday cards every year for the 45 residents. Margaret also assists the residents with any shopping they may require especially those that don’t have family close by.”

Mrs Young was presented with her Honorary Life Membership at the Auxiliary’s December meeting. President of the EGHS Aged Care Auxiliary Mrs Jane Richardson said that “Margaret has been volunteering with the health service for so long and has made a huge contribution to the hospital and to the community and we are so fortunate to have such a kind and caring person as Margaret”

Ms Harrison, said that “Mrs Young is a valued volunteer at EGHS and is well regarded by all volunteers, staff and residents at 70 Lowe Street. “Volunteering for 40 years is quite an achievement and we are very proud to have Mrs Young represent EGHS in the manner that she does. Margaret has a fantastic community spirit and we hope that she is able to inspire more people about the benefits of volunteering.”
