Oncologist impressed with Health Service

East Grampians Health Service Oncologist, Dr Craig Carden continuing to enjoy his role at Ararat. Dr Carden first studied medicine at the University of Sydney and then started specialty training in Medical Oncology at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Austin Hospital and the Peter MacCallum Hospital.

Dr Carden spent three years as a Clinical Research Fellow at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London.  During his time there he worked in Clinical Trials, Novel Therapeutics, and Translational Research in Thoracic, Prostate, Gastrointestinal, Uro-oncology and Gynae-oncology. Dr Carden is also an Adjunct Senior Lecturer with the University of Notre Dame and set up the Ballarat Cancer Care, based at St John of God Ballarat.

Dr Carden said he greatly enjoys his relationship with patients and has an interest in writing scientific papers, where he has authored more than 25. As well as general Medical Oncology, he has a particular interest in the psychological responses to a cancer diagnosis.

East Grampians Health Service Chief Executive Mr Nick Bush said “Dr Carden is a great addition to the Health Service and is a vital link to our ongoing treatment of cancer patients.”

Dr Carden said “East Grampians Health Service has a great clinical team who I thoroughly enjoy working with. They work to a very high professional standard.” Dr Carden has been working at EGHS for 2 years and commented that he likes the people and community of Ararat and district and it has been easy to fit in.
