Dental Technician training underway

East Grampians Health Service Dental Technician of 43 years Zigi Strauja is passing on his knowledge and experience to new Dental Technician Rebbekkah Seeary from at the new dental facility at East Grampians Health Service.

Mr Strauja commented that “he can remember for many years when the Health Service only had one dental chair that was serviced by a Dentist two days a week. The dental facility has now been completely renovated with four dental chairs and two new dentists and 5th year dental students from La Trobe University, with a large team of staff servicing Ararat and surrounding areas which is great.”

Mr Strauga explained that the Health Service has worked very hard on the dental department, securing funding, and spending money on refurbishing and relocating the dental facility and also embarking on a strong recruiting campaign for dentists.

Mr Strauga said “the new dental service has supportive staff, which not only work together well, but catch up regularly on a social basis. Mr Strauga said he will be spending time with the apprentice dental technician teaching her all the aspects of dental technician work that will cover such things from forming impression casting of patients teeth to denture production and alignment all vital skills in being a dental technician.”

East Grampians Health Service employee and dental assistant Rebbekkah Seeary started her apprenticeship to become a dental technician in December, said “I am very excited about learning the craftmanship of being a dental technician; I’ve always liked making and creating things and the ability to train as a dental technician locally is a great opportunity for me”
