East Grampians Health Service has filled its resident surgeon position with the appointment of 2 part-time surgeons, Mr. Shantha Tellambura and Mr. Abrar Maqbool.
East Grampians Health Service Chief Executive, Nick Bush expressed his relief to have the full time surgeon position filled at the Health Service. Mr. Tellambura is practicing at Swan Hill and will work 2 weeks per month at Ararat and will progressively increase his time in Ararat. Mr. Maqbool is working at Griffith in New South Wales and will work one Week each month at Ararat.
Both surgeons will consult from East Grampians Health Service Community Health Centre in Girdlestone Street. Referrals from General Practitioners can be sent directly to the Community Health Centre for Mr. Maqbool and for Mr. Tellambura to his rooms in Swan Hill.
Mr. Tellambura commented that “he was excited to join the East Grampians Health Service staff and was impressed with the scope of work that was available for me; it is a very well organized Health Service.”
East Grampians Health Service Perioperative Unit Manager Ms. Jane Smith said “I am very pleased that the resident general surgeon position has been filled by two highly skilled general surgeons with previous rural practice experience.”
