Peri-operative

Over the course of the year the Unit has accommodated over 1,500 patients and performed 2,500 procedures. Of these, 300 major procedures were performed thereby reducing the need for locals to travel out of the area.

The Perioperative Unit includes two Operating Rooms, a Day Procedures Unit (6 Bay), Central Sterile Supply Department, Recovery Room (4 Bay) & a 3/4-Chair Renal Dialysis Suite.

The Perioperative Unit provides the Staff and resources for the following range of surgery performed by our resident and visiting Surgeons and local anaesthetists:

  • General -
    Laparoscopic/open Cholecystectomy, Large Bowel Surgery, Sigmoid Colectomy,  Haemorrhoid Surgery, Skin lesions, Skin Grafts - Full and Partial thickness, Flap repairs, Varicose Vein procedures, Thyroidectomy, Inguinal, Femoral, Incisional, Umbilical hernia repairs. Colonoscopy, Upper GI Endoscopy, Breast Surgery.
  • Gynaecology -
    Total Abdominal Hysterectomy, Salpingectomy, Oophorectomy, Tumour Surgery, Vaginal Hysterectomy, Vaginal procedures, Laparoscopic Surgery.Pelvic Floor Reconstruction.
  • Ophthalmology -
    Cataracts and Intra-occular Lens implants, Vitrectomy, Ectropian, Entropian, Blepharoplasties.
  • Orthopaedics -
    Hip and Knee Arthroplasties,Arthroscopic procedures, Small Joint arthroplasty + exostosis and soft tissue release.
  • Urology -
    Trans Urethral Resection of Prostate and Trans Urethral Resection of Bladder tumours, Cystoscopies (rigid and flexible).
  • Dental -
    Conservation and Preservation.
  • Ear, Nose and Throat -
    Sub-mucous Resection, Tonsillectomy, Adenoidectomy, Septoplasty, Endoscopic Sinus Surgery.
  • Caesarian sections -
    Elective and emergency, are managed through the theatres.
  • Emergency surgery.
