Murray to Moyne Riders are ready for the big ride

The annual Murray to Moyne Cycling Relay is with us again with East Grampians Health Service’s two teams, the CRANKS and DEFIBRILLATORS already into full training, and have already started their fundraising.

This year’s event will be on 31st March & 1st April with the two teams participating in the grueling challenge of riding over 525 kms from Murray River Swan Hill to the Moyne Port Fairy.

Community Liaison Officer of East Grampians Health Service said “We have 16 riders & 6 support crew for this year’s ride; once again it’s a great effort from staff and local community members to give up their personal time to train and fundraise to help raise money for the Health Service. The team has been training hard and working towards to raising money for a new Cardiac Monitor for Inpatient Unit. Their target this year is $20,000 and so far they have raised $7,000 which outstanding effort in matter of only a few weeks.”

This year’s riders are Wayne Klauss (Captain of the CRANKS) and his team members are Sven O’Flynn, Tricia Connarty, Kathy Galletti, Tony Galletti, Ian Hastwell, Linda Fry and Gary Brumby. The Defibrillator’s are Alan Young (Captain), Jason Shipcott, Geoff Hateley, Nikki Pitman, Helen Roach, Amy Clarke, Shane Clarke and Graeme Foster. Both teams will be supported by Graham Bull, Les Ralph, Rob Keith, Laurie Tonkin, Leonie Mcdonald and Danny Drake

East Grampians Health Service Chief Executive Nick Bush also Highlighted that “the Business’s that have got on board early and made significant contributions are Ararat RSL, Sally Hinchcliffe & Associates, Carlyle Painting, Ararat Medical Centre, AME Systems, Hella Australia, Tycab Australia and Fry’s Spares.

 

Christians Buses will be supplying the Health Service with two buses this year to help make the comfort of the riders a little easier this year.”

Mr. Nick commented that “It’s good to see new faces on this ride including quite a few staff members. This is an important event for East Grampians Health Service and we appreciate the bike riders, support crew for their level of commitment towards this event and the health and fitness message. It’s also great to see businesses of Ararat and District getting behind this event too, which highlights the interest that the community has in the event.”

Some extra fundraising activities are being planned by the teams in March including a Film Night (Thursday 8th March)$15.00 a ticket and a Trivia Night (Friday 23th March) $10.00 a ticket.
